This is America

This is America?

I am astonished at what I am watching today.  I sit here watching people storming the United States Capitol and wonder at what point the call started coming from inside the house.  I reference the movie “Scream” where the call is coming from inside the house, because what we watch here today, right this very moment, is terrorism coming from inside the house, the house being our country.  Plain and simple, this is a terrorist attack on our sovereign nation, and we see an impotent commander-in-chief who is incapable of controlling the chaos he has sown.  Politics used to be different approaches to the same issues, but the goal was the betterment of people.  It has devolved into something more like clans who simply war with each other for the sake of trying to hurt the other side rather than finding a common good.  We were once “one nation, under God, indivisible” and now we are clearly, deeply, painfully and mortally divided to the point that we are our own terrorists.  9/11 turned out to be a massive success because the terrorists have won.  We rallied, united in the days following that brutal attack on the United States.  The world rallied around us, devastated by the tragedy that happened here.  We went to war to balance the scales, and now we have become a warring nation at war with itself.

We have lost our dignity, humanity, common decency and respect for ourselves and our neighbors.  We have moved so far away from who we were that we became a parody of ourselves and now, as I write this we have devolved into something we used to point to and say that other countries were so beneath us.  We are now a nation where there is violence in the streets, where there is violence in our most hallowed grounds of our government.  If a plane had crashed into the Capitol building today, we would have stood up and rallied together that these terrorists must pay for the damage they have done to our country.  But we are now the terrorists.  These are our neighbors; these are our coworkers.  There are our family.  We can’t blame these on “others” because these are people who were born in the places we were born, raised with the same education we had, and somehow have bought into lies and bullshit to the point of radicalization.

One of the points that has been so contentious for the US lately has been the issue of gun control.  I point to THIS exact moment as proof positive that it is now time to put firmer restrictions into place regarding guns.  These are weapons NOT being used in self-defense.  These are weapons being used in aggressive ways.  These are thugs.  These are radicalized terrorists who are home-grown.  To those who said “you can’t take our guns” where are you now?  Where are you in standing up to these people who are committing violence upon our nation, our fellow citizens?  You want to keep your guns, yet these same guns are being used as terrorists, and you cannot blame people with a different color skin, or a different religion, or a different country of origin.  These are people JUST. LIKE. YOU.

I am so fucking proud to be from Georgia today.  We have, as a state seen this coming, obviously.  We were a Trump state in 2016.  We have been firmly a red state for 20+ years.  We saw this coming.  We saw the evil that was being done in the name of an impotent leader, and we have reacted to it.  We have voted to make our voices heard.  We have said “anything but Trump, and Trumpism”.  The clan of Trump, no, rather the Cult of Trump has created a domestic terrorist group that is now being played out on tv in front of me.  Every single person involved today who has illegally entered the Capitol, who has brandished a weapon, who has been a part of this, should be rounded up and shipped off to Gitmo, and treated the exact same way that those people believed any terrorist should be treated.

I am angry.  This is fucked up.  This is a vile thing to see, and as a nation we should be outraged.  As a nation this should be condemned.  But sore losers will always pout, they will always complain, and they will always make it worse.  But this is wrong.  This is not just being sore losers.  This is terrorism.  This is what making American “great” looks like.  Oddly, it looks rather like a third world nation.  This isn’t what America was.  This isn’t what America ever should have been.  United we stand.  Divided we fall.  This cult has reached a place where now, today, in this very moment it is at a boiling point.  How we respond in this moment will define what America is for the foreseeable future.  Are we ok with terrorism in our neighborhoods?  Black Lives Matter protests were considered against law and order, and today we have people who are LITERALLY committing treason, and terrorist acts like out of a Tom Clancy novel.  How we respond today, and in the coming days is going to define us as a nation.  Be better America.  Do.  Better.  Make America a decent fucking place again.
