All lives matter. That is irrefutable. However, that as a response to “black lives matter” is problematic. Not only is it problematic because you are assuming that one discounts the other (flawed logic) but also because you are subscribing to a notion that minimizes someone else’s life and their experiences.

Recently the star of Black Panther, Chadwick Boseman passed away. It’s rare that I feel much emotion when a star passes away, but this one both took me by surprise as well as made me quite sad to hear. I enjoyed his work in everything I saw and he was not much older than me so there was definitely that brush with mortality as part of it. However, it was deeper. This guy was a superhero.

How do you define success? Is it the satisfaction of knowing you’ve done the best you could? Maybe it’s praise and recognition for what you do and what you accomplish. Beyond that, maybe you define your success with the contacts you have made in a higher social circle. Deeper than that, maybe you define success by your wealth and possessions like these are the trophies that you have earned for all your energy

You have to go to college and get a degree to get a job and be set for life. Anyone near my age grew up firmly hearing and believing that and likely investing tons of time, energy, and dollars into chasing that.
